چکیده

HELMAN, S. I., J. J. GRANTHAM, AND M. B. BURG. Eject of vasopressin on electrical resistance of renal cortical collecting tubules. Am. J. Physiol. 220(6) : 1825-1832. 197 1 .-A method is reported for measuring the transepithelial potential difference and electrical resistance in isolated rabbit renal cortical collecting tubules. The mean resistance with isotonic perfusion fluid was 13.8 X lo4 ohm cm (tubule length) or 867 ohm cm2 (tubule luminal area). This resistance is much higher than that previously reported for rat proximal convoluted tubules and is consistent with the much lower ionic permeability of the collecting tubule. Vasopressin caused a transient increase in potential difference (PD) without any change in electrical resistance. It is inferred that vasopressin directly increases active ion transport in the cortical collecting tubule. Increasing the tubule diameter by elevation of perfusion pressure reduced the PI> without any change in electrical resistance.

Ultrastructural Studies of Vasopressin Effect on Isolated Perfused Renal Collecting Tubules of the Rabbit

Isolated cortical collecting tubules from rabbit kidney were studied during perfusion with solutions made either isotonic or hypotonic to the external bathing medium. Examination of living tubules revealed a reversible increase in thickness of the cellular layer, prominence of lateral cell membranes, and formation of intracellular vacuoles during periods of vasopressin-induced osmotic water tra...

Response of the distal tubule and cortical collecting duct to vasopressin in the rat.

Renal micropuncture observations in the rat suggest that the entire "distal tubule" (defined by the micropuncturist as that portion of the renal tubule extending between the macula densa and its first junction with another (renal tubule) may be responsive to vasopressin. However, this portion of the renal tubule contains two segments that are morphologically dissimilar. The "early" distal tubul...

Effects of vasopressin and bradykinin on anion transport by the rat cortical collecting duct. Evidence for an electroneutral sodium chloride transport pathway.

Our previous studies in cortical collecting ducts isolated from rat kidneys have shown that vasopressin increases both sodium absorption and potassium secretion, while bradykinin inhibits sodium absorption without affecting potassium transport. To determine which anions are affected by these agents, we perfused cortical collecting ducts from rats treated with deoxycorticosterone and measured ne...

Prostaglandin E2 production by glomeruli and collecting tubules isolated from rat kidney.

The effects of vasopressin, angiotensin II, and calcium ionophore A23187 were examined and compared on endogenous prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) production, in the absence of exogenous arachidonate, by glomeruli and cortical and medullary collecting tubules freshly prepared from rat kidney. Angiotensin II stimulated PGE2 production in the glomeruli but not in the collecting tubules. Vasopressin at con...
